RE: Forestry Service to close ANF Campground

This is a nice campground. We were there several years ago. Yes,we had a nose poke campground host too.Who is this Senator you said we should contact. Since NF Campgrounds are a federal issue,we only have 2 senators,Spector and Casey,so that's who we need to write to. Thanks for the info.
Peterson is the state Senator for this area We're trying to drum up some support at the state level as well as national. write anyone you can think of that can help. As for not telling everyone that this was in north west PA I'm sorry guest I just figured everyone would have known what I was talking about, should known better.

Forestry Service to close ANF Campground

The US forestry service has plans to permanently closes Twin Lakes Recreation area and campground in 2009. They are trying to fast track the closing as to do it quietly to avoid public outcries to stop the closing. There plan is to close the campground at the end of this season and just not reopen it next year. This is a beautiful campground that has a recreational beach great fishing booth lake and stream two group site that hold 50 people. In the past few years the Forestry service has fell short with the general upkeep of the park but it isn't that far gone that with some repairs and up date the this recreational area could be the show place of the ANF. An additional problem they've had is some bad campground hosts that gave the park a bad reputation. Closing this park would be a waste of the infrastructure that is already in place as well as a waste of a beautiful recreational area. If you've ever been to this park and don't want to see it closed please contact Sen. Peterson and voice your opinion that's the only way to save this park. PLEASE HELP.

Working for Cradle of the Forestry

I lost my job in early May and found a campground host job with Cradle of the Forestry at Twin Lakes Campground in the Allegheny National Forest. This is working out great for me. It's 26 miles from my house and with the money I'm getting in unemployment which is a little more that I was bring home every two weeks working and the extra money Cradle is paying me all my bills are paid and I'm camping full time at 35 years old. The people from Cradle were excited to have a younger person working to do some of the heavier labor as most of there host are retired and in there 70's. Has anyone else ever worked for The Cradle of the Forestry. If so how did you like it.

RE: Site size at Artillery Ridge in Gettysburg?

I tent camped at Artillery Ridge Two years ago you'll have no problem with fitting the set-up you described. The boundaries of the sites are not well defined it's wide open with little shade and few trees the trees that are there are next the the fence that divides you from the site behind you. They do have the best diorama of the battle field I've ever seen you get a free pass to it for everyone in your group.

RE: 1500HD 6.0 vs 2500HD 6.0 - what's the diff.

When GM changed body styles they didn't plan for a 1/2 ton crew cab so they rebadged 3/4 ton crew short bed 1500 HD. All the suspension and drive train part numbers are interchangeable. At least that's what the guy over at diesel place.com said. So regardless of what numbers are posted on the window sticker a 1500HD is really a 3/4 ton.

RE: New Trailer

A small tool kit and a note pad don't run out and buy everything under the sun before your first trip there will always be things that you will find as you go. Each time you go out write down thing you would like to get or change. Don't let yourself get worked-up if there is something you forgot. The whole idea of RVing is to have fun and enjoy yourself if you keep that in mind you will always have a good time no matter what happens or what you forget

RE: Accessory Questions for My First RV

I think your a little confused here when talking about a level as a tool yes bigger is better but not more accurate.
No, not confused. A 3" level (which is the small stick on one he is talking about)that is even a 1/32" off will be off 1" in 8'. It's not the bubble, it's the mount that it's on. Hence a bigger level IS more accurate because it measures a larger distance.
If properly installed this makes no difference and they are equally accurate.

RE: Accessory Questions for My First RV

1) Definitely the larger ones, not enough accuracy in the small ones to do you any good.
-Jeff :h
I think your a little confused here when talking about a level as a tool yes bigger is better but not more accurate. Once these add on levels are installed the entire 5er becomes one big level (tool). Next as far as installing them goes, no you do not need a perfectly level spot. The more level the spot the easier it is. You need to level the trailer side to side using blocks or boards under the wheels on the side that is low and front to back using your tongue jack. Use a 3,4 or 6 foot carpenters level on the floor in the center of the unit to check for level. Final give it the bathroom door test. Open the bathroom door part way and let go if it stays put then the unit is level. As far which one, I'd go with the small one because they stick on with double face tape and don't require holes to be drill in your new 5er. If you have a level (tool) this would be very simple to do the first trip out to the campground and if your having trouble I sure that you'll be able to find another camper there that will be more than willing to take a few minute to give you a hand.
Now for the battery disconnect if you think you need one that's up to you but there are a lot simpler ones out there that require no special skill to install check your local auto parts store. I have one on my 72 Vette that just slips on the neg battery post and then it has a post on it that the neg battery cable goes on. It looks almost like the switches they use in grade school science class when learning about electricity and it cost me about $5 at a car show flea market. Doing these type of project yourself is a great way to formularize yourself with your new 5er. Enjoy and good luck.

RV Sidekick Grill

I was looking at Cabela's web site and they have a grill called the RV sidekick that mounts on a rail on the side of the TT and hooks in to the TT LP with a quick connect like the RVQ. I'm in the market for a new grill since the Wally World portable we have now is on its last legs and the TT we have now has a quick connect fitting for an outside grill. I was wondering if anybody has used this grill and what they think about it.

RE: 99 GMC 6.0 Gas

I had a 99 6.0 Silverado that did the same thing on mine it was an O2 sensor but if your going to replace one you should go ahead and replace all four just a tip soak with penetrating oil two or three times a day for a few days before you try to replace them. They're a real @#$%^& to break loose when I changed mine I was afraid the exhaust hanger where going to break.

RE: Unreliable Service Mechanic!!!!

The first thing I see that's wrong in your post is the words dealer and mechanic. Today dealers do not have mechanics they have service technicians. The difference being that mechanic's can trouble shoot problems and repair them based on experience. Service technician plug a decoder or look in a book and in it tells them what part to change. The only way your going to find a mechanic at a dealer is if he is in his fifties or older and has been working in a garage for the last 30 + years but even at that he's a mechanic working as a service technician

RE: Bark Collar?

Used properly, e-collars can be very effective training tools. Used wrong, they can really hurt a dog. They don't need to be turned up to extreme pain levels to work if the human knows what they're doing.
Yes they can be very effective my neighbors wife bought one for they're dog. Her husband and I talked her into trying it on and then he zapped her. She hasn't barked since :B and the collar hasn't been used since
